The Power of the Blood Moon

The Blood Moon is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs during a lunar eclipse: the satellite passes in the shadow of the Earth, temporarily located between the planet and the Sun, giving it its characteristic reddish color - thanks to Rayleigh scattering.

A quite unusual phenomenon that is part of a "lunar tetrad": an event that can occur after a few years but also quite rare, it can occur only 7 times in the course of the same century and its frequency changes over time.

In fact, the Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli noted that there were no tetrads in the 1582-1908 centuries, but there were 17 tetrads in the following two and a half centuries (1909-2156).

Surely it led and still leads the most curious to point their noses up to the sky, but what does the Blood Moon mean from an esoteric point of view?

Eclipses, both lunar or solar, are logically dramatic events to which it is impossible to remain impassible. Often considered catastrophic and a sign of divine anger by different cults, they are energetic gateways that are often misinterpreted - like the Dark Moon.

In the Middle Ages it was common belief that eclipses were caused by witchcraft, witches were thought to have the power to draw down the celestial bodies to the Earth, causing the crop to rot. To dispel the consequences, the farmers used to run around the fields trying to make as much noise as possible - in an attempt to ward off the spell.

Some occultists and astrologers still claim it is wrong to perform spells or divination with such a "unnatural" phenomenon, discouraging any inexperienced practitioner from working with this type of energy. They are only rumors related to the usual prejudice that the human being has against darkness, dictated by ancestral fears and dreads.

Instead we need to see this combination of light and darkness as an opportunity to improve ourselves. Red is a colour associated with instinct, with our primordial vital energy; it is infact the colour of blood, as the name of this lunation suggests - our vital sap par excellence. 

It is also the colour associated with Muladhara, the chakra at the base of our vertebral column also called Root Chakra. And it is our roots that we must get back to.
